DOCK ATTENDANT

Compensation: $21-$25 per hour
Position Summary
O’Rourke Family Estate is seeking a seasonal Dock Attendant to oversee operations at our three docks and boathouse during the summer boating season. The Dock Attendant is the first point of contact for guests arriving by water, ensuring safe, welcoming, and seamless arrivals before they continue on to our winery locations. This role combines hands-on dock work, attentive guest service, and shuttle driving, and is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors in a beautiful lakeside setting and takes pride in delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Dock Operations
- Assist with docking and undocking of guest and estate vessels, ensuring safe handling and secure mooring.
- Operate and maintain boat lifts and oversee the cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the boathouse.
- Conduct daily inspections of docks, lines, cleats, ladders, and lifts; report wear, damage, or hazards promptly.
- Manage dock traffic during peak periods to keep arrivals and departures efficient and safe.
Guest Experience
- Greet guests arriving by boat with a warm, professional, and informed welcome.
- Coordinate smooth transitions for guests traveling from the docks to the wineries and back.
- Answer guest questions about the estate, wineries, tastings, and local area with confidence and care.
- Anticipate guest needs and proactively assist with luggage, coolers, mobility, and small children.
Shuttle Transportation
- Operate the estate shuttle to transport guests safely and comfortably between the docks and winery locations.
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and guest-ready shuttle environment at all times.
- Assist guests with loading and unloading; follow safe driving practices and estate route protocols.
- Complete pre- and post-shift vehicle checks and report any issues to the General Manager.
Maintenance and Safety
- Perform basic maintenance on docks, boats, lifts, and the boathouse as directed.
- Monitor weather and water conditions throughout the day and take appropriate action to protect guests, staff, and property.
- Follow all established procedures for safety, emergency response, and incident reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience
- Previous experience in customer service or hospitality preferred.
- Experience driving a shuttle, van, or similar passenger vehicle is an asset.
- Familiarity with boating and dock operations is an advantage.
Skills and Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a polished, guest-first demeanor.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and clean driving record (required for shuttle operation); abstract may be requested.
- Basic knowledge of boating safety and dock operations.
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) preferred, or willingness to obtain prior to start date.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification considered an asset.
- Comfortable on, around, and in water; able to swim.
- Able to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.

Work Environment

- Flexible seasonal schedule including weekends, statutory holidays, and evenings as required by guest activity.
